Christmas in Winter

Christmas in Winter in Tulbagh
Christmas for most South Africans is a warm, summery affair, unlike Christmas in most of the Northern Hemisphere! In order to experience a snowy Christmas, the town of Tulbagh, about an hour and a half from Cape Town, puts together a Christmas in Winter festival each year.

One of the main events of the Christmas in Winter weekend is of course the ever popular Theuniskraal Trail Run, that will be in its 6th year in 2019. The highly anticipated Trail Run takes place on Saturday 22nd June at Theuniskraal and entry details will be announced closer to the event.

Christmas in Winter 2019 runs from 22-23 June and the whole town gets into the festive spirit and helps to recreate that ‘white Christmas’ feeling with decorations and festive activities suitable for both the young and old. Visitors can take a stroll down historic Church Street, which has the largest concentration of National Monuments on a single street in South Africa, and along the way they can stop at the museums open for the occasion.

All the establishments in Tulbagh will be joining in the festive spirit and with a Christmas craft market, theatre productions and unique shopping opportunities on offer, visitors can look forward to all the food and fabulous activities that makes Christmas the merriest time of the year.

Local restaurants will be serving up comforting winter meals, full-on traditional fare and eggnog or Glühwein to make sure diners really get into the spirit and have as much Christmas fun as possible. Tulbagh’s wine estates (including Theuniskraal of course!) will be welcoming crowds for wine tasting, cellar tours and various other activities.
